The
new Manta 44 PowerCat is scheduled to begin construction in 2004 and brings
to the market the first American made cruising catamaran truly designed
for long range, safe, offshore cruising. Incorporating the same structural
design, engineering, attention to detail and value, of the proven Manta
42 MKII SailCat, the Manta 44 PowerCat should be a tremendous success.
The
Manta 44 PowerCat was designed as an efficient midsize power cruiser capable
of running offshore at upper end speeds in all weather conditions while
maintaining long-range cruising capabilities.The design incorporates a
low drag displacement hull form that will deliver sea kindly and efficient
operation at both low and high speeds. The hull below the waterline is
fine forward with circular hull sections for low wetter surface area.
The after sections of the hull have a canoe stern with a vertical trail
edge offering low resistance, as well as the desirable benefits of a entirely
internal prop shaft and fully protected propeller location.
Above
the aft underbody is a flat hard-chined hull section to provide extra
buoyancy and to prevent the aft end of the hull from squatting when underway.
A full length chine above the waterline offers more hull interior space
while a second chine that sweeps up towards the bow adds more buoyancy
and a lifting surface to assist in raising the bow in a seaway and minimize
the tendency for the boat to bow steer.
Power shall be provided by the standard twin 160hp or optional 240hp Yanmar diesel engines. The standard 160hp engine package has an estimated top speed of 17 knots and a 1,000-mile maximum range at cruising speed, while the larger 240hp engine configuration should permit a top end speed of 20 knots and a cruising range of approximately 750 miles.
Hull, deck, and bulkheads constructed of triaxial, biaxial, and unidirectional fiberglass with vinylester, isophthalic resins, and Corecell core in hulls, Nida-core core in subsoles and bulkheads, all vacuum bagged for stiffness, strength, and light weight
Laminated hull/deck joint
Collision bulkheads with watertight compartments in bow, stern and keels
Deck hardware reinforced with aluminum plates molded into layup
Twin
fiberglass keels molded integral with hulls.
Twin high density foam/fiberglass rudders with 2" dia. solid stainless-steel shaft.
Interior
finish is a blend of wood veneers, vinyl headliners, accented with Swanstone
composite countertops, wood moldings, louvered wood doors and high durability
